Amomum longiligulare and joy of the Red Dao in Sai Duan village

  • Beside enjoying herbal bath service, visitors coming to Sai Duan village, Phin Ngan commune, Bat Xat district, Lao Cai province can also have a chance to get an open view on the Amomum longiligulare under the forest canopy.
On average, each household in Sai Duan village harvested about 50kg of fruits of Amomum longiligulare; while some households could get 400kg in August 2018. With selling prices of the fruit ranging from 100,000 to 140,000 VND per kilogram, this is a good source of income for people in such an extremely difficult area.
CIRUM has supported villagers a pilot model of growing Amomum longiligulare under the forest canopy since 2015. Since then, the plant has been multiplied by the people of Sai Duan village as well as Phin Ngan commune. Not only does it help to increase local income, Amomum longiligulare is also a material for herbal bathing and an ingredient for local wine specialties.
