Abstract:
Cao Son is a poor, extremely difficult commune of Muong Khuong district. Each household only has 0.27 ha and each person has 0.05 ha on average. With such a small area of forestland, it is impossible to guarantee food security for a peasant household. In fact, local people face a serious shortage of forestland to sustain their traditional livelihoods, and they become increasingly difficult. Facing this situation, CIRUM has surveyed and discovered a large overlapping forestland management between the MB and the village communities. This discrepancy results in the villagers’ lack of forestland for production and the degradation of forest areas managed by the Management Board. With the involvement of the local people and authorities in the land allocation process, the problem is being resolved. Read full here
