The Forest Law No. 16/2017/QH14, which is newly adopted by the National Assembly on November 15, 2017 clearly stipulates that the ethnic minority communities living in the forest areas have the rights to land allocation for forestry, agricultural and fishery production.

This workshop is the following one after the other two workshops: the first was for Northern provinces organized in Lao Cai province on 7thApril 2017 by the Vietnam Administration of Forestry, Lao Cai provincial department of Agriculture and rural development and CIRUM, and the second was a national workshop organized by the Nationalities Council of the National Assembly, CIRUM, CENDI and CODE in Hanoi on 26thApril 2017.

The Kon Tum provincial Science and Technology Association (KUSTA), Sa Thay district department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chu Mom Ray national park and CIRUM cooperated to organize a study tour for exchanging experiences of growing Sa nhân tím (Amomum longiligulare) to Son Lang commune, K’Bang district of Gia Lai province on May 7th, 2017. There were 30 participants, including both husbands and wives from 10 households of the Gia Rai ethnic group from Bar Goc village, Sa Sơn commune who have been getting contract for protection of 20 hectares of forests within the administrative and servicing area of the Chu Mom Ray national park. The participants are expected to become beneficiaries and pilot model builders in the future.

The rights of ethnic minority people (EM) over their traditional forest resources [1] are the most discussed issues at lobby workshop to make sure the  livelihood of people living in and close to forests, and sustainable development of forests are secured. The workshop is co-organized by Ethnic Minority Council of the National Assembly Office and NGOs (CENDI/CODE/CIRUM) on 26th April 2017 in Hanoi for recommendations to forestry law revision 2004.
